The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung (Institute for Tourism and Development) concerns itself with development related information and education in tourism. In this context, it edits the series "SympathieMagazin" and other publications, organises international contests, offers training and seminars for people employed in the tourism sector, is active in the area of tourism research and consultancy and is involved in the public debate on tourism development issues.

The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung is a registered non-profit organisation working freely and independently.

SympathieMagazine - More than a guidebook
Entertaining information - in a nutshell. In short articles "SympathieMagazines"
("magazines of understanding") illuminate complex issues and allows insight in other cultures, religions, and other topics.
With much respect and sympathy, the magazines tell about the everyday life, the way of living and customs, art and economy, history and politics of a country.

Berlin-Deklaration "Transforming Tourism", Agenda 2030 needs a change in Tourism

United Nations declares 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and accent the important role of "sustainable" Tourism. More than 30 representatives of Civil Society and Science, beneath The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung e.V. (Institute for Tourism and Development), created in March 2017 the Berlin Deklaration "Transforming Tourism". They stand up for sustainable Development and want to obtain a change in Tourism.

Intercultural MotivationSeminars for Tour Guides in Developing Countries, Newly Industrializing Countries and Transition Countries
Our intercultural training seminars are designed for tour guides who are in charge of German- or English-speaking tourists. The seminars will heighten the participants' awareness of their important role as cultural mediators and motivate them to work for a better understanding between cultures.
This offer addresses to tour operators, tourist agencies, tourist boards, tourism ministries and tour guide associations who wish to further qualify their tour guides.

TO DO! International Contest on Socially Responsible Tourism
Tourism related projects, measures and products who have adopted socially responsible tourism development are awarded with a TO DO! trophy. Most important criterion is the consideration of different interests and requirements of local people through participation during planning and realisation. The awarded projects are to be made known to a wide public. The contest is held annually - deadline for application is 31 August. The award ceremony will take place in March during the International Tourism Exchange in Berlin/ Germany.

TOURA D'OR Film Contest for Sustainable Tourism
The way how people decide for their holiday destination and their holiday attitudes are increasingly influenced also by the audio-visual media. The TOURA D´OR honours film productions which stand for a socially responsible, environmentally compatible and sustainable tourism. The TOURA D'OR contest is announced every second year (next: 2016) - deadline for application is 30 September. The award ceremony will take place in March during the ITB Berlin/ Germany.

The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung carries out independent research projects and studies more or less regularly, as well as contract research and investigation.

ZwischenRufe (Interventions)
Started in 1999 by Studienkreis, this series of discussions during the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin/ Germany attempts to highlight tourism-related issues which might otherwise drift out of sight in the daily routine of the industry.

Ammerlander Gespräche (Ammerlander Talks)
Since 1994, an open dialogue in a confidential atmosphere is held as an annual event, focussing on particularly sensitive subjects in tourism development. Top management persons from tourism enterprises and media meet for an exchange of views and experiences.
